Hard Rock, Sleaze Rock, a bit of Punk and some Power Indie rock, all thrown into a blender and then turned up loud” was one reviewer’s take on the band and they aren’t far wrong. Another said: “Born out of a government cold war experiment to create new rock gods by using DNA collected from the back of Mick Jagger’s car, splicing the essence of British & American rock… …a Chimera of rock was created.” very amusing and colourful way of saying that they have great influences and a massive love for some of the very best rock bands that have been.

The band tries hard to be accessible, not to be pretentious or too proud, but they do play with a little bit of swagger. Whether they are playing in tiny venues like the Robin Hood pub in Guildford, the Native Tongue in Epsom or on the huge Pro stage at a music festival to thousands they always give their all. You know by the end of the gig the band is going to have
bleeding fingers, they’re going to be covered in sweat, and they’re going to have shredded vocal cords.

Band beginnings

Velvet Razor was formed in early 2002, that same year they released their raw debut analogue recorded album “The Day the Earth Rocked” out to the unsigned indie rock scene. Then they toiled away the next few years in
the dark, dank and sweaty clubs of London and the South-East. After a few personnel changes (new drummer and new keyboard player) they regrouped and their second (and more polished) musical release was in 2006 – their 4 track EP “The Razor’s Edge (The Garden Studio sessions)” was born out of a beer and whisky fueled long weekend at Garden Studios Guildford with Neville Dean as Producer and Engineer. The EP received favourable radio play and reviews.

The Musicians

Although there have been some personnel changes, Dave Kent, the main songwriter, vocalist and guitarist has steered Velvet Razor for over 21 years. The band has thrilled audiences around London and the South-East, also playing the festival circuit.

Actually, while playing live they exude tremendous energy and they have a proven ability to entertain audiences of all ages, in intimate venues up to large festival stages.

In the studio

Their forays into the recording studio always yield interesting results, which explains their 10,000+ strong worldwide following on MySpace, 4200 Likes on Facebook and 1490+ Twitter followers. Melding the essence of British & American rock, and influenced by the styles of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Cult and The Doors, but with the energy of bands like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Guns N’ Roses, QoTSA, Foo Fighters, Greenday and Muse.

“Stonehenge Welcomes Careful Drivers” (SWCD for short) is their latest release in 2017 and is available worldwide on Amazon, iTunes, Napster and other reputable music stores. “SWCD” unites Dave Kent’s animal-charged yowling vocals with road-seasoned melodies to create a genre-defining album chocked full of fist-pumping rock. With standout tracks like “Indigo Skies,” and “I Dream of You” the opening single with 10,000 views on YouTube.

“Hex” album (promoted by the QuiteGreat PR agency) was the band’s album Released in July 2010, with standout tracks like “The Castle”, “The Shimmering Sun” and “Do you dare to lie?”

“Rainbow Warriors” Compilation (was also promoted by the QuiteGreat PR agency) was the band’s 4 track EP Released in March 2010, with standout tracks like “Victims of Love,” and “The Shimmering Sun” The EP received favourable reviews from Guitar magazine.

“The Wyvern” was a 4 track EP recorded at WSC studios in Bury in 2008 and released in 2009. Released on CDBaby. Received some Radio play in the UK, France and the USA

The Razor’s Edge” was the first Velvet Razor 4-track EP released in 2007. Released on CDBaby. Received some Radio play in the UK, France and the USA
